Two victories in 24 hours

CHRIS Newton (Middridge CRT) scored his second win in 24 hours in Yorkshire events when he outsprinted ex-professional Dudley Hayton (East Bradford CC) in the World Coal Championship Criteriums at Ossett.

Newton had gone clear with Nigel Martin (North Yorkshire Coureurs) on the second lap of the two-kilometre circuit. Martin was dropped after Hayton bridged the gap to join Newton and they lapped the field just before the finish.

Damian Smith (Clifton CC), winner of the Lakes RC three-day, was second in the bunch sprint but was later disqualified for using abusive language. Richard High (Knaresborough CC) was taken to hospital after crashing.
