Newton won Saturday’s Cleveland WHS ten mile time trial in less than favourable conditions.

A rising wind for the later starters foiled his hopes of doing a 20-minute ride and he had to settle for a short 21, good enough to give him a 20-second victory over Goole's Bobbin Krygsman.

Consistent Shaun Tyson, of Hartlepool CC, was the only other rider inside 22 minutes to take third.
