Double delight as Chris roars to easy wins

CHRIS Newton, of Middridge CRT, continued his winning ways with a weekend double.

The Middlesbrough 19year-old won Cleveland Wheelers' ten mile time trial on Saturday and the Bell's Stores Four Dales road race on Sunday to bring his total of victories this season to ten in six weeks, seven road races and three time trials.

Newton won the Four Dales with an awesome piece of solo riding which saw him take victory by almost five minutes from international team-mate David Cook, the former national road race champion.

Chasing

The early miles saw Tony McKenna (Middridge CRT) and Russell Thompson breaking away a few miles after the Guisborough start, to be joined by Graeme Hatcher (Middridge CRT) after Stokesley.

Newton left the chasing bunch at Newgate Bank, in Bilsdale, to catch and take over the breakaway group in the thick mist of the 22-mile climb over Blakey Ridge.

Meanwhile, Cook, David Buchan (North, East RT) and Ian Murray. (Stockton WHS) left the bunch, catching McKenna and Thompson as Hatcher was dropped.

As Newton roared, to victory, Cook left the chasers at Lockwood Beck, with Buchan winning the sprint at the Birn Brow Summit finish from McKenna and Murray.
