Newton in a class of his own at Dishforth
By GRAHAM SNOWDON

CHRIS Newton, the Cleveland Division road race champion, produced a stunning ride against the clock to win Northern Velo's open 25-mile time trial on the new Barrowby-Dishforth course on Saturday.

The Middridge CRT rider from Middlesbrough, competing in his first individual event over the distance, clocked a winning time of 51min 13sec to beat his nearest rival by a massive 2min 50sec margin.

In contrast, second to sixth places were covered by only 22 seconds.

Newton, 19, left regular time trial winner Neville Jackson, of Roxby Wheelers, to salvage second place by 13 seconds from Harry Walker, of Tyneside's GS Metro.

David Cook, the former national amateur road race champion from Darlington who is also riding for Newton's Middridge team this season, tied for fourth place in 54-23 with Shaun Tyson, of Hartlepool CC.

Graeme' Hatcher, tenth in 56-42, completed the winning Middridge team. "These times prove that the course has the potential to be one of the fastest in the area, given a better day," said event organiser Mike Milen.
