REPEATING his win of two years ago, and completing a weekend double, Commonwealth silver medallist Chris Newton (North Wirral Velo-Kodak) outsprinted scratch rival Paul Curran (Optimum Performance RT) to win Sunday's Neil White Memorial Pursuit at Trimdon, Co Durham.

Curran and Newton left the other scratch riders after a lap and a half of the seven-mile circuit, Curran attacking first and Newton jumping across to him on the finishing hill at the end of lap two.

As the field spread over 14 minutes at the start came together, Newton and Curran finally caught the leaders with three miles left and went virtually straight through the group.

Newton outsprinted his rival by six lengths at the line, with Alex Hayles (Gosforth RC, who had started six minutes in front of them, coming out of the group to take third place, 15 seconds down on the two leaders but 10 seconds clear of the main pack led in by Geoff Mount (Hades `69 RC) and Steve Fullerton (Richmond and Darlington CC).
