A TRIP WORTH ENDURING
WCPP ON TRACK

THE British endurance track team returned on Monday from a successful trip to the Czech Republic following their final race before the Commonwealth Games.

With just over a week to go before the track events get under way, the squad proved they will be a force to be reckoned with after a solid performance against a good quality field on the road.

Chris Newton won the first stage after escaping a 31-rider break with two other riders. After failing to defend the lead on the second stage, the third stage provided another good result for the team as Bradley Wiggins, riding with the national team in preparation for the Games, took third in the 38-kilometre time trial.

"Our aim was to get a top 10 in a stage or the overall," said road team manager John Herety. "It was mission accomplished on the first stage, although we weren't good enough to defend the lead. It was also a chance for Bradley to get back into the swing of things with the team."

After returning home the team will make its final preparations for the track events.
