Elite 10km Points Race
A quiet start to the race didn't prevent Chris Newton from doing his usual demolition job on the rest of the field in the Points Race.

Tony Gibb won the first sprint, and with Newton picking up only one point in the first two sprints it looked anybody's race. However, Newton came back strong in the closing stages, with a win and a second, ripping the field apart in the process with his attacks.

Only the very impressive under-23 Ed Clancy and Russell Downing looked capable of staying with him, but even they were left exposed in the closing laps as Newton's incredible ability to recover from his sprints kept him in the race when his rivals began to get gassed up.

Earlier in the race, Rob Hayles made a brave break for half a dozen laps after the first sprint, but couldn't keep away. A dangerous four rider break, with the Downing brothers, Bryan Steel and Chris Newton was also reeled in, but Newton had the final say.

2 Ed Clancy 7
3 Russell Downing 7
4 Evan Oliphant 5
5 Tony Gibb 5

Madison 1km Time Trial
Chris Newton and Tony Gibb were the very polished winners of the 1km Madison Time Trial. Showing the neatest skills and a very slick handsling, they just pipped the Downing brothers, who have had a great couple of weeks since the Moscow Track World Cup and were this week given full membership of the GB Team programme.

Motor Scratch Race 6km
As usual the Revolution got underway with a pacy 6km motor-paced race. Team Persil couldn’t quite engineer a fairytale start, just failing to deliver a win for Rob Hayles as Tony Gibb managed to get in amongst the new team and stealing the win with a well-timed run for the line.

Hayles was given a great lead-out by Bryan Steel and Chris Newton, but a very focussed looking Gibb managed to break into the line and took full advantage of the Persil boys’ efforts. Alwyn McMath looked set to gate-crash the Persil party as well, but the high pace of the final laps took their toll and he could do no more than hang on for third.

2 Rob Hayles
3 Alwyn McMath

10km Scratch Race Elite
Russell Downing stormed to victory at the end of an Elite Scratch race which boiled up to a fantastic climax with the Downing brothers, Huw Pritchard, Malcolm Elliott and Chris Newton all looking set to take the win at one time or another in the last kilometre.

Russell Downing had to go for broke at the end as Huw Pritchard launched a typically well-timed attack on the last lap. Elliott, not for the first time, got himself into a good position, only to lack that final cutting edge which made him such a prolific winner 15 years ago, whilst Newton got caught up in traffic at the crucial moment.

Downing's victory was one of the evening's most popular, with his crowd pleasing style winning him a lot of fans in the last couple of seasons.
