York Cycleworks Road Race

Newton Wins York Cycleworks Road Race Thanks to organiser Chris Belsham for this .... Chris Newton surged clear of breakaway companions Kevin Dawson and recycling teammate Robin Sharman on the finishing hill to win the York cycleworks road race. The trio had gone clear with Stephen Ward and Julian Grommett on the first of six tough laps in the Howardian hills. Working smoothly, this group was initially held by the bunch. But as the bunch tired the gap increased rapidly. With two laps to go, Newton launched a savage attack on the 1 in 6 slopes of Bulmer Bank which only Dawson and Sharman could follow. Newton was then confident enough in his jump to wait until the finish. Meanwhile the brave efforts of Ward and Grommett were cruelly quashed as the bunch caught them with only five miles to go. Matt Kipling led home the strung out bunch from Ward and Gareth Hewitt. 1. Chris Newton recycling.co.uk/MG-Xpower/Litespeed 104km |
