Talking
to the organiser Ivor Armstrong who has kindly supplied the following
results, he explained that Russell Downing attacked early on, alone, taking
most of the Primes along the way. Behind him, DFL's Ben Hallam made a
counter move but he was shadowed by Russell Downing's team-mates Chris
Newton and Rob Hayles who let the DFL professional ride himself into the
ground trying to get across to Downing. With Hallam starting to dig himself
into
a hole, the other two riders then worked him over, and once Hallam was
going backwards, Newton and Hayles carried on their chase catching their
teammate to form a Recycling trio at the front of the race.
Once there, they resisted the challenge of lapping the peloton which
was being controlled by the rest of the Recycling team, leaving it for
the final sprint where Russell Downing left it late before coming around
his teammates to add to his already impressive list of victories this
year. Hallam meanwhile, cheered on by the crowd who could see he had done
a 'ride' before being worked over, came in 50 seconds down in 16th place
having given his sponsor plenty of time at the front of the race.
